Pakistan, with its rich history and diverse culture, is also home to some of the most haunted sites in South Asia. From eerie cinemas to ancient forts, here’s a glimpse into some of the country’s spookiest locations.
1. DHA Phase 3, Sector Z – Lahore
This upscale residential area in Lahore has tales of ghostly apparitions and mysterious occurrences. Residents and night-time passersby report seeing shadowy figures, strange noises, and sudden temperature drops. The unsettling events in this sector leave many convinced it harbors a dark secret.
2. Shireen Cinema – Karachi
Shireen Cinema, once a popular entertainment spot, now stands abandoned and shrouded in tales of paranormal activity. Locals claim to hear ghostly whispers and footsteps when no one is around. The eerie atmosphere has led many to avoid the area after dark.
3. Shah Allah Ditta Caves – Islamabad
These ancient caves near Islamabad have a history that stretches back thousands of years, with many more undiscovered caves that lay deep below the surface. Known as meditation spots for monks and Sufi saints, the caves are also believed to be haunted by spirits. Visitors often speak of inexplicable noises and an eerie feeling of being watched. And if that wasn't enough, residents of nearby localities such as Sector C-12 have reported sightings of dark silhouettes at night.
4. Koh-i-Chiltan Peak – Balochistan
Koh-i-Chiltan, one of Balochistan's most mysterious peaks, is steeped in folklore. According to a local tale, forty babies were abandoned at the peak, since their parents could not afford to raise them all. When they went back, the babies had disappeared without a trace. The legend tells of ghostly children calling out to travelers, echoing through the winds. The mountain's haunting calls have frightened climbers and locals for generations, lending an unsettling air to its stunning views.
5. Shamshan Ghat – Hyderabad
This ancient cremation ground holds a notorious reputation for being haunted. Residents living nearby have reported seeing ghostly apparitions and hearing cries late at night. Many believe the spirits of those who were laid to rest here wander the area, unable to find peace.
6. Fort Derawar – Bahawalpur
Fort Derawar, a 9th-century fortress in the Cholistan Desert, holds a chilling reputation. Locals and the Nawab family tell tales of paranormal activity within its underground rooms and tunnels. Visitors report eerie screams, shadowy figures, and strange lights emanating from dark corners. Legends speak of hidden treasures and supernatural events that stir fear among explorers.
7. Moti Masjid – Lahore
This beautiful yet eerie mosque, part of Lahore Fort, is said to be haunted. The masjid used to be for the kings and emperors during the Mughal Era. The mosque got this name because of its pearl structure. It is believed that the mosque has a large community of good ghosts who reside. These ghosts are also said to be married to many humans with whim they have off-springs as well.
8. Mohatta Palace – Karachi
This grand palace, is now a museum. However, workers and visitors have reported hearing footsteps, seeing objects move on their own, and feeling unexplained cold spots. As well as strange voices of people having a party has been heard through out the palace's halls. Stories of a spirit wandering the hallways at night contribute to its haunted reputation.
These haunted places in Pakistan continue to captivate the imagination and attract those curious about the paranormal. Whether for their historical significance or supernatural stories, each site holds a unique place in the country's tapestry of mystery.
